Infection controls and universal precautions protect patients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control — you, your surgeon, and the surgical team. The cornerstone in a good and safe practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Dr. Yamada and receive a straightforward answer.
Dr. Yamada and our entire team follow procedures recommended by federal, state and local agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as the California Departments of Public Health (CDPH) and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. These measures include:
- Disinfectant hand soap
- Gloves, face masks and face shields
- Chemical disinfection of countertops and environmental surfaces
- Sterilization of all equipment before every use
- Disposable materials whenever possible
We sterilize all reusable equipment, including surgical hand pieces. We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure for all instruments. We operate advanced medical grade air purifiers utilizing ultra-fine particulate filters (HEPA-Rx) and UV-C light to clean and disinfect the air as well as state of the art handheld electrostatic disinfection sprayers to disinfect environmental surfaces. These help to maintain the highest level of safety from pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. All disinfectants are EPA also approved for Covid-19. We will be also using HOCl (hypochlorous acid) aerosol disinfection to bolster our already stringent disinfection process in our surgical suites and entire office. HOCl is a natural, non-toxic and environmentally safe EPA approved COVID-19 disinfectant that is made by our own white blood cells to attack any bodily invaders.
The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel.
