Pre Operative Surgery Instructions
- Immediately prior to your appointment, brush your teeth so that your mouth is as clean as possible. Do not swallow any water if you are having general anesthesia or IV sedation.
- Do not plan on returning to work or school following your procedure.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably a short-sleeved shirt/top.
- Please bring any asthma inhalers which you use.
- Do not take any aspirin or aspirin products for a minimum of five to seven days prior to your appointment unless you must take them for a medical condition.
- Have several cold packs (e.g. bags of frozen peas or corn) at home to apply to your face for the next 48 hours.
- Contact lens wearers should remove them before coming to the office.
- Antibiotic Pre-Medication Instructions: Please take your antibiotics as instructed prior to your procedure if you have been directed to do so (e.g. one hour before for prosthetic joint replacement or prosthetic heart valve replacement or 1-2 days before for chronic infection situations).
- Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID) Pre-Medication Instructions: Taking an NSAID (providing they cause no side-effects for you) like ibuprofen (200-400 mg) one hour prior to your procedure preemptively will reduce any post operative pain and swelling.
- Contact our office immediately if you develop a fever, cough or signs of illness. We may need to reschedule your appointment.
